Received a letter about CSA closing Child Support Cases?

Why have you received it and what should you do now?

Following recent reforms to the child maintenance system, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is now beginning to close down all existing Child Support Agency (CSA) cases.

They are encouraging parents to use the new Child Maintenance Service.

The DWP are writing to parents who have previously had their cases managed by the Child Support Agency. The letter advises that a case is due to close and that it will now be necessary to consider your options for child maintenance.

Have your circumstances changed?

If you are contacted, and even if your case was originally ‘nil assessed’ (i.e. where no maintenance was due), you are encouraged to review your circumstances.

Does your current situation mean that under new assessments, maintenance may now be payable?

The government estimates that as many as 50,000 children could benefit from these changes.
