The SFE (Solicitors for the Elderly) is an independent, national organisation of over 1,500 lawyers, such as solicitors, barristers, and chartered legal executives, who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.

In order to be a fully accredited member, lawyers must have a minimum of three years’ experience advising in areas of older client law and have completed the Older Client Care in Practice Award – a qualification which demonstrates the specialist client care skills that enable lawyers to advise and support older and vulnerable clients. Members like Sarah and Ruth are also required to continuously update their knowledge with training and produce an annual statement of competence, which ensures they maintain their expertise.

Clients of SFE members can also be reassured by the SFE code of practice and safety of redress through the members’ regulatory bodies, should something go wrong.

Collaborative Law

Kathryn Ferris is a Collaborative trained family lawyer and offers the benefits of this revolutionary approach to her clients.

Collaborative Law is an innovative approach to dealing with matrimonial disputes based on the belief that, in the majority of cases, the best and most amicable solutions are those agreed between the couples themselves. Collaborative Law allows couples to meet face to face, with the support of their respective solicitors, and discuss their views and suggestions for resolving the matter.

This enables couples to reach agreement without the need for costly, stressful and time-consuming Court battles. Everyone in the room has the common goal of finding the best solution for the couple and their family.

For more information about Collaborative Law see our article.
